Huai Nam Dang National Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Huai Nam Dang National Park is located on the Thanon Thong Chai Mountain covering Mae Taeng district in Chiangmai and Pai district in Mae Hong son province with the area of approximately 179.5 square kilometers or 112,187.5 fields. Most of the areas are ranged hills and high rugged mountains. The tallest mountain is Doi Chaang where the river source and numerous brooks are located. In the winter, it is chilly; the wind is strong and it is raining heavily during May – October. As for summer, the temperature reaches the highest around 34 Celsius degrees.

To visit the national park from Chiangmai city, take the highway 107 at Chiangmai-Fang route about 37 kilometers until you reach Mae Malai market in Mae Taeng district. Then turn left and take the highway 1095 of Chiangmai-Pai route around 65 kilometers until reach the park station on the right. Drive on for 6 kilometers, you will reach the national park office or if you go for another 1 kilometer, you will reach the tourist information center. Another way is taking public bus, Chiangmai-Pai route, from Chiangmai Bus Terminal. The fare is 40 baht per person. It takes about 3 hours to travel there.

The first interesting attraction among tourists in Sri Lanna National Park is the scenic viewpoint around Huai Nam Dang (Doi Kiu Lom) in Kid Chang sub-district in Mae Taeng district around the national park office. This well-known viewpoint is absolutely intriguing as you can see Doi Chiang Dao from here; it is a superb spot to see sunrise amid the sea of fog effect in the early morning. Also, the flowers are blooming beautifully in winter.
The next attraction is Huai Nam Ru or Doi Sam Muen in Muang Kong sub-district, Chiang Dao district where Lee Sor Village, stunning scenery, coffee farming and winter fruits can be experienced.

Other interesting attractions include Huai Nam Dang Waterfall, Pong Nam Ron Tha Pai (hot spring), Mae Yen Waterfall and Ung Ngen’s nature trail. The entrance fees: 40 baht for Thai adults and 20 baht for children, 200 baht for foreign adults.
