Dochula Pass, Bhutan

The word “La” in Dochu la is meaning Pass or the way that passes through the Dojula point.

Dochula Pass is a mountain pass in the snow covered of Himalayas within Bhutan on the road from Thimpu to Punakha. The viewpoint of this area is approximately 3,100 meters height from sea level. It is the highest point of the route during the journey. Dochula view have 108 Stupa and a large body square around for cross the Dochula Pass. On the top of the hill there is a rectangular pagoda with a typical Bhutanese roof. There is a large shrine on top and there are about 108 small shrines around.

This was created as auspicious for protect people who passersby with safely around the area. They also have colorful flags for celebration on worship the god of forest to dispel evil. When this place is clear day with good wealth then you can see the landscape of “Himalayas”.

Victory Stupa in here is a memorial for soldiers who died in the war between Bhutan and Indian rebels in year 2003. This is also a breakpoints for travelers who come and visit Phu Nakha or Wangdee city.
