Sri Lanna National Park National Parks & Marine Reserves is located in Banprao sub-district, MaeTaeng district in Chiangmai covering the forest area of Prao district, Mae Taeng district, and Chiangdao district (Mae Ngad forest, Mae Taeng forest, and Chiangdao forest) which has the area of 652,000 fields. The park is hill evergreen forest with high rugged mountains running north to south. It is the important river source of the Ping River with fertile natural atmosphere and abundance of wildlife.
Sri Lanna National Park’s attractions include, first of all, Mon Hin Lai Waterfall located in Mae Ngad forest in Prao district. To visit, take Chiangmai-Prao route about 85 kilometers, then turn left for about 14 kilometers to the waterfall. It is the gravel road, so you have to go by 4-wheel drive vehicle only. It is the 9-tiered rocky waterfall with the current flowing all year; each layer is different. The highlight of this waterfall is the view from the top of Mon Hin Mountain at 9-tiered fall which shows the scenic view of Prao district. Unfortunately, the national park will close the waterfall during 1st July – 30th September each year.
Another attraction is Mae Ngud Somboon Chol Dam. It is located at 41 kilometers milestone on Chiangmai-Fang route, then turn right for approximately 11 kilometers. The location is filled with exquisite forest and mountain views offering rented rafts and accommodation from the private agency all year round. There are other interesting attractions such as Huai Mae Rangong Waterfall, Huai Pa Plu Waterfall, Pha Daeng Cave, limestone mountain or Mae Wa Mountain’s natural trail.
