Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine in Shizuoka, Japan

Fujisan Sengen Shrine (富士山本宮浅間大社, Fujisan Hongū Sengen Taisha) is located in Fujinomiya City in the southwestern foothills of Fuji Mount. A Shintō shrine is in the Fujinomiya city in Shizuoka Prefecture. It is the Ichinomiya of former Suruga Province and the head shrine are about 1300 Asama or Sengen shrines in the country.

This is a part of the Fuji World Cultural Heritage and registration during June of year 25th Hase. Fujisan Hongu Sengen Shrine proof that have value for people in Fuji. Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine is worshiping on Asama No Okami. This shrine was built to suppress volcanic eruptions. The main shrine of Sengeng Shrine which has been created in many places throughout Japan and this present is widely respected by the center of East Japan.

The shrine is the most important shrine of Chubu region because It is a shrine that has very long history for over 1,000 years old with classic architecture. Around this area also have many Sakura trees and climbing route.

In the early 1600s when the original structure of the shrine was destroyed by the earthquake. Left only the inner shrine and outer shrine with the tower door. The inner shrine has two unique structures with a Zen architectural style which is not easy to find anywhere else.

One thing that makes this shrine very hot during the spring time. This is probably because there are more than 500 sakura trees by Mecca blooming in late March – early Apriland the nature of pink cherry blossoms around the shrine for representative of religious beliefs.There also a path that used for the annual archery riding festival held on 5 May each year.

At the shrine place also has a large opening and seasoning for ceremony to climb on Mount Fuji during Early July and early September. With this adventures line is like walking and climbing to the summit. But most climbers will start climbing from Fujinomiya 5th Station and climb about 6-12 hours before get back to the land.

The summit is the location on Okumiya at the innermost area of the Fujisan Senen Shrine with cover the crater and all areas above the 8th station (8th Station).

They have different time for open during the month of the year as:

  • 5:00 to 20:00 (April to September)
  • 5:30 to 19:30 (March and October)
  • 6:00 to 19:00 (November to February)

How to get there:

  • From Fujinomiya Station walk about 10-15 mins
  • From Fujinomiya Station by use Miya sightseeing bus about 5-10 mins and cost is 200 yen. Bus will get off from station 1-2 hours.
