Courses offered at Community College
The Technical Program is similar to AUS’s VET, but it does not have a definite link to a bachelor’s degree. If students choose to study in this program and would like to continue to have a bachelor’s degree, they will receive some credit transfers but very few Popular courses such as Culinary and Aviation courses
University Transfer Program (UTP): is a two-year program that will study the same as Year 1 and Year 2 of the University. The US education system is similar to a bachelor’s degree in Thailand. At year 1, most subjects are general subjects (General Education) but not as general as in High School. For example, if students study engineering, they will study physics, numbers, students studying other fields such as science will also study. Therefore, in year 1 there will be Transmission of the study, very few subjects in Year 2 to 1-3 to start the specific disciplines that more.
High School Completion (HSC): is a newly opened program. Only available in some Community College, starting with students who have graduated in 10th grade. Unlike the 2 programs above that require high school, students with HSC will take 2.5 – 3 years to enter Associate Degree and transfer. Go to study in Year 3 and Year 4 at the same university as UTP
English as Second Language Program (ESL): is an Intensive English program which is designed to feed students to Top program Which is different to the language course of a common language school, which will be taught in Quarter like other programs. In 1 year there will be 3 Quarters (around 10 weeks) and 1 Summer (around 8 weeks).
The advantage of studying undergraduate through Community College compared to University. Tuition fees are much cheaper. Institution Fees per year from 1-2 years (Tuition 2 years):
- Community College = 9,000 – 10,000 = 19,000 USD
- State University = 17,000 – 23,000 = 40,000 USD
- Private University = 35,000 – 40,000 = 75,000 USD
Enrollment criteria are much easier: when I look at the results of IELTS 5.5, over 16 years old, high school with an GPA of 2.0, there is no SAT or no foundation.
The opportunity to graduate from a good university is much higher: in each Community College, there will be a list of universities that transfer students regularly and some may be able to issue a Conditional Offer since the student has just finished Year 1 in CC.
If you want to study at San Jose State University, you must have a high school grade 3.0 and a language level equivalent to IELTS 6.0. But if you choose to study at Community College such as Contra Costa Community College, it only uses high school. 2.0 and IELTS 5.5. After that, during the 2 years that we were in CC, we achieved about 2.3 grades. We were able to transfer to Year 3 and 4 at San Jose State University, or if we grade over 3.0, we have the right to Will be able to enter UCLA or UC Berkeley
Studying in a classroom with a small number of students in the University. Classes in Year 1 may have a lot of students from 100 to 250 people, but in Community College, the number of students per class is only about 20-30 people, which is an opportunity for us to reach teachers. Easily Suitable for international students who may still have language problems. After completing UTP, students can request OPT for 1 year before transferring to Year 3 and 4. While enrolling at University, they will have to wait for their bachelor’s degree to be able to request OPT. As a rule, you can only request 1 time after graduating from level 1, but the caveat is that OPT must find a job that matches the field of study within 6 months or the OPT will be canceled.)
