Where is Wanning City in Hainan?

Wanning, a county-level city in Hainan Province, is located in the southeast of Hainan Island, bordering the South China Sea to the east, Qiongzhong County to the west, Lingshui County to the south, and Qionghai City to the north. In the fifth year of Tang Zhenguan (631), Wan’an County was established; in 1988, Hainan was established as a province, under the jurisdiction of Hainan Province.

Wanning has a tropical maritime monsoon climate with abundant sunshine, abundant rainfall and high temperature. Wanning has such scenic spots as the “Hainan’s No. 1 Mountain” Dongshan Ridge and Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden.

History
The discovery of the Neolithic site of Baigou in Wanning, and the discovery of several stone axes and adzes in Wenchangyuan Village of Jiuzhou City indicate that during the Neolithic Age, humans reproduced and worked in Wanning.

In the sixth year of Yuanding in the Han Dynasty (110 BC), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty Liu Che ordered Fubo General Lu Bode and Lou Chuan General Yang Pu to lead his troops to quell the Nanyue Rebellion, and Zhuya County and Dan’er County were established to govern Hainan Island. Wanning is under the jurisdiction of Zhuya County.

In the Tang Dynasty, in the fifth year of Zhenguan (631), Wan’an County was set aside from Gupingchang County, under the jurisdiction of Qiongzhou; in the thirteenth year of Zhenguan (639), Wan’an County was changed to Liyazhou; the second year of Longshuo (661) , Wan’an County was changed to Wan’an Prefecture, leading Wan’an, Lingshui, Fuyun, and Boliao counties, and the prefecture was established in Jiuzhou Village, which is now Damao Town;

In the 9th year of Kaiyuan (721), Wan’an Prefecture moved to Lingshui County; in the first year of Tianbao (742), Wan’an Prefecture was changed to Wanquan County, belonging to Lingnan Road, and the county was renamed Wanquan; the first year of Zhenyuan (785) , Wanquan County was relocated back to Wanquan County, and at the same time it was renamed Wan’an County and the county was also renamed Wan’an.

In the third year of the Republic of China (1914), it was changed to Wanning County and was under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province.

Location
Wanning is located between 110°00′ to 110°34′ east longitude and 18°35′ to 19°06′ north latitude. It is located in the southeast of Hainan Province, bordering the South China Sea to the east, Qiongzhong County to the west, and Lingshui County to the south. The city is 76 kilometers long from north to south, 38 kilometers wide from east to west, with a land area of ​​1883.5 square kilometers, a sea area of ​​2550.1 square kilometers, and a coastline of 109 kilometers.

Topography
Wanning is located in the periphery of the southern part of the Five Fingers Shandong Province. The terrain is high in the west and low in the east. It has a variety of landforms. It is divided by elevation, surface morphology and cutting degree. It is composed of middle mountains, low mountains, high hills, low hills, terraces and terrace plains. .

Climate
Wanning is located at low latitudes, south of the Tropic of Cancer. There is plenty of sunshine, abundant rainfall, high temperature, no severe cold in winter and no scorching heat in summer. It belongs to a tropical monsoon oceanic climate.

Hydrology
The main rivers in Wanning are: Sun River, Longgun River, Longtou River and Longwei River. The largest river, the Sun River, originates from Feishui Ridge in Qiongzhong County. The main stream flows into the South China Sea in Dongao Town. The Sun River is 66.8 kilometers long in the territory. The Longgun River originated from the Neiluo Ridge in the territory and entered the Shamei of Qionghai City into the South China Sea. The east of the city faces the South China Sea, with a coastline of 109 kilometers.

Tourist sites
Dongshanling Cultural Tourism Zone is located in Dongshanling Scenic Area, Wancheng Town, Wanning City, Hainan Province, and is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. Dongshanling is nearly 184 meters above sea level. The main attractions include the wind-moving stone at the “Yi Xian Tian” landscape, as well as many historical sites and other scenic spots.

Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden is located in Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden, Wanning City, Hainan Province, which is a national AAAA-level tourist area.

Wanning Bali Village Scenic Area is located at No. 1 Industrial Avenue, Xinglong Tourism City, Wanning City, Hainan Province. It is a national AAA-level scenic spot.
