How did Wanming Pagoda come
Wanming Pagoda is located on the shore of the Tuojiang River in the Shawan Huangtukan at the foot of Qinglong Mountain in the east of Fenghuang Ancient Town. It is adjacent to the Xiachang Pavilion with carved beams and painted buildings in the east and the imposing Fengyu Bridge to the west. It was initiated by the famous painter Huang Yongyu in 1985, funded by the masses and supported by the government. It was completed in 1988, hence the name Wanming Pagoda.
Wanming Pagoda is located on the bank of the Tuojiang River at the foot of Dongling Mountain. The current tower is 21 meters high. It is a large hexagonal brick tower decorated with colorful paintings and sculptures. The six channels all have Fengyue arches and windows, and the small tower is exquisite and beautiful.
The predecessor of the tower was the calligraphy paper furnace tower built in the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty for burning calligraphy paper. The original calligraphy paper furnace tower was a hexagonal three-level brick tower with a height of 11 meters. About 1 meter, the tower body is built on the platform foundation, and the bottom 1 meter high is used to build the foundation with red sandstones carved with fine drills. The upper part is sealed with dormant bricks. The lower part and the upper part gradually shrink. The hollow is very small. Flush the smoke.
The tower is a three-eave hexagon, with a colorful glazed baohu reed top, and the tower is decorated with colorful paintings with a lime foundation. The side facing the water is the front, and at a height of more than one meter, there is a moon arch furnace pond for burning calligraphy paper.
The uppermost layer of the tower is written “Wenguang Shooting Bucket”, the middle layer is written “Mainstay”, and the lower layer is written “Han Mo Liufang”. Some people burn calligraphy and paper here all year round. The small tower is exquisite and beautiful, but it is a pity that it was destroyed during the “Cultural Revolution”, leaving only ruins.
Wanming Pagoda is located on the north bank of Tuojiang Shawan, opposite to the Xiachang Pavilion and Hongqiao. In 1985, Huang Yongyu convened local people to raise funds to rebuild the seventh floor, which was responded to by the county people’s government and people from all walks of life, actively sponsoring funds. It was completed in October 1988 at a cost of 5,900 yuan. According to the intention of the people to fund the construction of the tower, it was named “Ten Thousand Names Tower”.
Lights were added to the inside and outside of the tower, and it was bright at night, matching the red lanterns on both sides of the river. The inner wall of the tower is covered with tourists’ names, and some are even on the wall more than two meters high. It is masonry made of blue bricks, mixed mortar and reinforced concrete. It is six squares and seven grades, with six angled corners on each floor. It is beautiful and beautiful, and it is hung with copper wind chimes.
The height of the tower is 22.98 meters, the diameter of one layer is 4.5 meters, and the diameter of each layer is reduced by 0.3 meters. The surface of the tower is elegantly decorated, and the tower is tall and beautiful, like a girl Tingtingyu standing on the bank of the Tuojiang River. The tower body is reflected in the blue waves of the Tuojiang River, swaying, and it looks very beautiful and aerodynamic.
There are six couplets on the first floor, all of which are inscribed by celebrities, or odes or feelings, with different styles. For example, the original county magistrate Wu Guanlin’s inscription: “Tower Jingwu is high in the sky to attract phoenixes, and the river is clear and meandering.” Democrat Tian Hedan’s inscription: “Hey, the clouds are rising from the top of the sky, and it’s just on the side of the water.”
Why build a paper furnace? It is said that after the extension of the Bijia City in the 50th year of Qianlong (1776), the ancient city looked like a pen holder, hence the name “Bijia City”. With the Bijia Peak, in order to cultivate Feng Shui, a calligraphy paper furnace pagoda was built on the bank of the Huangtukan River in Shawan. It is like a pen, corresponding to the Bijia City, which intends to make the Phoenix humanistic.
